GEO for Wix: Making Your Wix Site Visible to AI

Wix once had a reputation for being hard for crawlers to read, because it drew pages with JavaScript in the browser. Modern Wix has largely fixed that — it now serves your main content as pre-rendered HTML that AI crawlers can read. But because Wix is a hosted builder, a few settings and habits can still quietly make you invisible. Here’s what to check.

Why modern Wix is better than its reputation

Wix used to render pages mostly in the browser, which made content hard for crawlers to see. Today Wix serves a pre-rendered HTML version of your pages, so your text is normally in the raw HTML that AI reads. That’s the single biggest GEO factor — so the old “Wix is invisible to search” warning is mostly out of date. But “mostly” isn’t “always,” and the rest is about a handful of switches.

What can still go wrong (and how to check)

  1. Search-engine indexing is turned off. Wix has a site-level setting that controls whether search engines (and AI) may index your site. If it’s off — common while a site is still “Coming Soon” — you’re hidden everywhere. Turn it on once you’re live (Dashboard → SEO & GEO settings). → noindex and AI crawlers
  2. An AI crawler is blocked in robots.txt. Wix gives you a Robots.txt Editor (Dashboard → SEO & GEO → Tools and settings → Robots.txt Editor). There’s no one-click AI toggle, so rules are added by hand — which means a directive blocking GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot may have been added (by you or a how-to article) and forgotten.   3. A JavaScript-only embed or app. Your main page text is pre-rendered, but some third-party apps, custom Velo code, or interactive widgets load their content with JavaScript. The honest part

Wix trades control for convenience: you can’t touch the server, so you rely on Wix doing the right thing — which, for plain content pages, it now mostly does. Don’t buy any “AI booster” app; the durable wins are boring. Keep indexing on, don’t block crawlers, keep your real content out of JS-only embeds, and fill in the SEO fields Wix already gives you. How to check your Wix site

Open your page’s “View Source” and confirm your text is actually in the HTML; open yoursite.com/robots.txt and check that AI crawlers aren’t disallowed; confirm indexing is on in your SEO settings. Or run your URL through a free AI-visibility check to score all of it at once.

Modern Wix is more AI-friendly than its old reputation — your job is mostly to not undo that: keep indexing on, keep crawlers allowed, keep real content out of JS-only embeds, and fill in the SEO fields.
